hail to the ketchup stainer

"These are the good years in the golden sun, a new day is dawning, a new life has begun. ... Love is flowing like ketchup on a bun. Ketchup. For the good times ... "
Garrison Keillor and the Ketchup Advisory Board may have been wrong. On his radio programme, they told us repeatedly, over the years, that ketchup has "natural mellowing agents".

Every evil thing you ever heard about trump is true, and many other evil things you never heard of. On June 28th, Cassidy Hutchinson, chief aide to trump's chief of staff, gave public testimony concerning trump and the failed putsch. The events were planned, trump approved of trumpsters carrying and ultimately using weapons, trump thought his vice-president deserved to be killed by his other minions. But, the testimony that has most caught the public's interest is the toddler-in-chief's food tossing tantrums.

all Republican speak is duplicity, mendacity, evil intent

legitimate political discourse

Some of the most consistently lying, delusional, and ultimately evil things spill out of the mouth of the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Reince Priebus was very aggressive, and quick to distort, and twist everything. When Trump chose to make Priebus his chief of staff, Trump chose Ronna Romney McDaniel to replace him on December 14, 2016. Shortly thereafter, he told her to stop using the Romney name. At the beginning of 2019 she attacked, demeaned, and insulted her uncle for criticising her master, Trump. “For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack [trump] as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive.” She is an enemy and traitor to country, and family.

As the world knows, Trump and his party of insurrectionists had a failed putsch in January 2021. That party [the Republicans] wants that to go down the memory hole, as they further connive, conspire, and cabal to be more successful in their next attempts. Early this year, the RNC had their winter meeting. They made and passed a resolution using ultra-Orwellian language, calling the putsch “legitimate political discourse.” [see: click]

settled law
as binding precedent

Bork repeatedly promised to respect “settled law”. He was lying, and every Republican nominated to be on the Supreme Court since has similarly lied. His legal opinions would have made him a Tory in the 1770s. He did not make the jump to the Supremes, and the Republicans want revenge for every loss. It was abortion that the questioners, and proponents were publicly interested in [there were many other issues that Bork, and his party were interested in].

In 2005 at Roberts' confirmation hearing his initial statement included, “...Judges and justices are servants of the law, not the other way around. Judges are like umpires. Umpires don't make the rules; they apply them. The role of an umpire and a judge is critical. They make sure everybody plays by the rules. ... that it's my job to call balls and strikes...”.

Well, Alito's draft opinion has been leaked, in it he and his cohorts overturn Roe v. Wade 1973.

In a footnote he wrote:

“whereas the domestic supply of infants relinquished at birth or within the first month of life and available to be adopted has become virtually nonexistent.”
This reminds me of what Jonathan Swift wrote in 1729 in “A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick. It is a satire concerning the poverty of the Irish, and the wealth and disinterest of the English. Swift in cruel, straight faced, fancy but blunt language suggests Irish children to be sold as food to the rich English:
“A young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee, or a ragout”.
Alito seriously, while Swift satirically, sees infants as items on the commodity market.

Saint Adalbert and Our Lady of  the Blessed Sacrament merged in 1961. That parish was closed by Richard Lennon, then bishop of Cleveland, in 2010. The congregation refused to accept that, and appealed successfully to the Vatican. Their  Homecoming was in 2012. This mural is near where the Blessed Sacrament church had been, it was the designated Colored parish.

Daniel Rothenfeld. Peace. Walford & West 97th. 2020.
Mrs. Clinton was attacked for mentioning a basket of deplorables.  She was mistaken about the size, it is far larger than she suggested.  These trumpster scum are venomous, and very provocative, and they have money to engage their proclivities.  This one is on Snow, and by the intersection with Ridge, near St. Charles Borromeo.   Ghoulardi (local television character in 60s Cleveland) made clean fun about Parma, and people got upset.  Flying a US flag upside down is a signal of distress.  This should be looked into by authorities.

Evangelical Witness

People of certain religious persuasions have their own parallel language. It is not terminology of specifics that do not exist elsewhere. No, it is the same words with different meanings. I read an article about Trump's effect on the evangelicals. He created a disruptive wave among them. This writer says it is lingering, but over all they are as they were. The one area where it has caused a problem is in "witnessing".

When certain Protestants use the word "witness", or "witnessing" they are using internal code. Witness in standard speech refers to attesting to fact as in testimony, evidence, proof, knowledge from being present, and the like. They mean proselytising. They want to recruit converts. To many this is not wanted, it is uncomfortable, irritating, sometimes insulting, especially when it is intrusive, or aggressive.

Outside of religious services, this is the most religious activity they engage in. This activity is verbal, almost exclusively. One does not have to behave as a Christian (they find good works meaningless, faith is expressed in words), one hectors. Many see this as an aspect of conspicuous hypocrisy.

So why is witnessing in the age of Trump more difficult? This is the elephant in the room that is not mentioned, but fully acknowledged silently—credibility. White evangelicals were [and are] so allied with Trump. It was noticed with disgust by the world, because Trump has no positive attributes in common with good Christian living, morality, or ethics. The only thing that is shared is hypocrisy, and unnecessary verbiage. Trump is first, and most of all—a liar. He is a psychopath. This bears a  permanent stain of shame.

relentless

Anonymous Deplorable. "Arrest Fauci". 2021. Cleveland.

Ronny Jackson was a navy physician assigned to the White House. He became known publicly, when he in January 2018, claimed Trump was 6'3" and 239 pounds. It was obvious that that was false. Also, at the time it was widely publicly spoken of [and known] Trump as mentally impaired. Jackson said that Trump had a perfect score on a  test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment)* to gauge dementia. For his reward, Trump nominated him for a cabinet position. News came that Jackson indulged in beyond normal intake of alcohol and drugs. Jackson also was called a "candy man" with prescriptions.

Department of Defense Office of Inspector General investigated Jackson. Trump stalled the investigation. Jackson's behaviour was wretched in many ways. His use of recreational chemicals spurred unbecoming actions. His behaviour, especially towards women, was bullying and piggish. Of course, Trump approved all of these things about Jackson. And above all Jackson wanted to be a Trump minion.

Now, Jackson is a congressman in Texas. He wrote a letter demanding President Biden submit for mental evaluation. Thirteen other deplorable, magat congressmen co-signed. Yes, they do project.

Jackson is also one of the fourteen Repukes voting against the Juneteenth holiday. He is one of two in both groups. Jackson is not ashamed to be considered a racist.

Jackson is against the prophylaxis of mask wearing. Jackson is a physician, but allegiance to Trump supersedes Hippocrates.  Dr. Fauci is not a trumpster. Jackson, and other such Repukes hate Fauci. They participate, and foment a campaign against Fauci.  Why is Fauci so marked? Fauci is a diligent public servant, a doctor that follows science, but most of all--Fauci will not lie for Trump. Relentless. Trumpsters are relentless. They are unyielding, impervious, and invincibly ignorant. They are also demented, and seems incurable.

stuff to see on a February morning, east side Cleveland

There are a pair of cupids in Lake View Cemetery. On occasion they are decorated like stone porch geese are. To-day is St. Valentine, but i think this is winter gear. The other cupid has a black bonnet. This was the lightest foto snapped of them. Snow does not make for many good picture with cheap cameras.
In November early, these papers were posted up and down on Carnegie, and seemingly the next day were removed. This one is one that was missed on 116th. Apropos seeing it after T****'s second acquittal. He is still a criminal, traitor, and loser.
There is some very good brick work on this fire house built in 1898, Station 26, at Kinsman & E. 79th. Horses pulled the fire wagons then. It has been slated to close more than once. The center bump out's three windows have been replaced by bricks, and glass blocks. Wonder whether this was Cleveland's best looking fire house.

Tatra Savings & Loan Co. began in 1909.  1925? a new building was built at Woodhill & Sophia. Mame was changed to State Savings & Loan Co. in 1946 and moved in 1952. Declared insolvent and sold in 1986. Tatra is the English spelling of the mountain range which is the northern border of Slovakia. This had been a Slovak neighbourhood. The American Eagle was often prominent on banking buildings in the 1920s, but this S&L also prominently advertised its savings interest rate (that was a thing in the past).
Sometime later someone started a church, his name is on the sign. This is common in the Black neighbourhoods in Cleveland.

Guilty! whadya gonna do bout it?

Trump will not be convicted. Trump is not on trial. The Republican Party is on trial. Republican senators will not admit themselves, and their party guilty.
Trump will not be convicted. Trump is not on trial. The Republican Party is on trial. Republican senators will not admit themselves, and their party guilty.

Y'no, years ago the Freemasons realised their membership was continuing to shrink. They commissioned a study to see how they could attract new, young members. The conclusion was that younger men were not very interested in the ceremonies, and other things. Freemasons liked the ceremonies, and other stuff. They would not change, and their membership continues to shrink.

Republicans are not going to change their behaviour. They are what they are, and they like it that way. We will see how their membership holds, of  course they survived Hoover and his Depression, Nixon and his criminality, the utter vileness of Gingrich, the incompetency and mendacity of bush jr, and they still celebrate Reagan's attack on reality and the American way.

abortion monomania

Jean-Étienne Dominique Esquirol *1772, 1840† was a physician, and an early psychiatrist. He studied asylum patients, and wrote about monomania. Monomania is a partial insanity, in which a generally sane person is pathologically singularly preoccupied.

The first idea in Catholic ethics is that the means DO NOT justify the ends. As in the syllogism, false premises invalidate conclusions. Also, to promote God sincerely is to do so without lying. Jesus does not need your lies.

There has been a successful campaign by forces of politically "conservative" Catholicism to reduce all morals, and politics to only the position on abortion. All other social justice issues have become incidental, or contrary. This includes most bishops, much Catholic media, especially Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Any attack is of use to advance the position, any method, no regrets. By any means necessary is antithetical to Catholic (Christian) ethics, and they don't care. And "conservative" politicians, and interests (financial predominately) have benefited by this blank cheque, carte blanche.

In earlier American history, there was a movement to prohibit the use of alcohol. These prohibitionists sought laws to achieve their ends. They effected the outcomes of elections. They wanted candidates to give them lip service in order to achieve their ends. They did not care about anything else, and they did not care whether the candidate complied with the prohibition of alcohol himself. They did not care if he was competent, or corrupt. The cause for temperance was not good enough, absolute prohibition. The full force of the movement would be used against the "wets". Eventually the "drys" won. So Prohibition was in effect from 1920 to 1933, and crime increased.

Beware the company you keep

These presumptive, authoritarian, conservative voices have taught hatred towards Democrats, Catholic Democrats, and those who vote for Democrats. They came after John Kerry, and now Joe Biden. They hated Obama, and the Clintons, and before especially Teddy Kennedy. And now they pushed for Trump.

Trump is a psychopath. He is vicious. There is probably no false accusation against him, he has done far more dirty deeds which have not been made public. His personal life was, and is, filled with immorality unto depravity. He wanted the daughter of the woman, who was his second wife, aborted. Marla Maples told him she was pregnant, that was his solution. Maples did not have an abortion. Trump had raped many women, and had affairs with others. Were there other children? born, or unborn?

Donald has cheated in every endeavor he was in. No public figure has demonstrably lied as much as Trump. Everything he touches, he destroys. His career is that of destruction, he almost destroyed America. The failed self-coup of the 6th of January, failed primarily because of the idiots Trump used as insurrectionists. There are many confederates not yet known to the public.

In addition, to the fascist Hitlerian modeled flags and merchandise displayed by the Trumpfenwaffenleute, there were "Christian" flags in the mob. I am not surprised by the lunatic fringe of apocalyptic Protestant millenialists, dominionists, and other lunatics in the rabble that seiged the Capitol. There has also been Catholics who have been recruited through successful propagandising.

There were draws to making trumpsters:  the first, foremost, and strongest was race hatred, and racial resentment; those that want white supremacy. But, the religious issue that was cast to catch Catholics was abortion.

Birds of a feather...not the flock to be in

And on the issue of abortion, Catholics have made a compact with others. Not everyone is Catholic, but anyone can be a person of good will regardless if they have any religion, or none at all. The groupings of people who have the least good will towards Catholics, are those Evangelicals, who are by other tags Baptists (whatever they may call themselves), and Pentecostalists (who also sometimes identify as "non-denominational"). When they say they love Catholics, they mean only to convert them, and have absolute contempt otherwise. So, any Catholic, with the sense God gave a goose, would be extremely wary of such allies. Two of the megachurch preachers who really hate Catholics are Robert Jeffress, and John Hagee, both well known trumpsters. These are not people of good will. These vocal Protestants are anti-Catholic bigots, they would not want a second Catholic President, as much as an earlier generation had Norman Vincent Peale, and Billy Graham lead Protestants against John Kennedy. Trump's father had the family listen to Peale weekly, in person, and Donald had him officiate his first marriage. Graham's son, Franklin, is also a trumpster. Jeffress runs the First Baptist Church of Dallas, the first megachurch under the earlier W.A. Criswell, which had Billy Graham as a member, and Ted Cruz as a featured speaker. Criswell often spoke against Kennedy in Dallas, up to his assassination. Criswell later would be president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Failed Insurrection

Ellsberg is a religious writer with a sharp wit. He has been poking T**** in a continuing series of #TolstoysTalesofTrump. Orange Nero at his insurrectionist rally sent off his minions to attack Congress. He said, he would go with them. T**** watched the event unfold on television instead.
There was this fellow in Germany who led a failed putsch, in prison he dictated a book which his secretary wrote down. The book was titled, „Mein Kampf”; T**** used to keep a copy by his bed. Here are the covers from Germany's leading news MAGAzines.

Some of the motley mob were clowns, as is their god T****.  Others were domestic terrorists, some with military, and police training.
No one should have been surprised. In T****'s insane, inauguration speech, he read the words “American carnage, and other fanatical, dystopic, bulls**t.
People pointed out how poorly defended the Capitol was, as compared to when Black Lives Matter marched. This photograph was pulled out of the memory files of unidentified forces standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Other people remarked on how Capitol Police arrested peaceful protestors on many occasions, but arrested so few in the failed coup attempt. Religious people of conviction were especially easy to take into custody.

Fiona Hill was Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs. She left before Orange Caligula's telephone call to the President of the Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelinsky.  She did speak candidly and bravely at the impeachment hearing. Fiona Hill spoke to The Daily Beast about January 6th's events:

“The president was trying to stage a coup. There was little chance of it happening, but there was enough chance that the former defense secretaries had to put out that letter, which was the final nail through that effort. They prevented the military from being involved in any coup attempt. But instead, Trump tried to incite it himself, this could have turned into a full-blown coup had he had any of those key institutions following him. Just because it failed or didn’t succeed doesn’t mean it wasn’t real.”

Fr. James Martin, SJ wrote:
Today's violence at the US Capitol, a national disgrace, is the inevitable result of the endless lies about the election spread by President Trump and his supporters.  Here we see the result of these lies, the fruit of sin: anger, hatred, discord, despair and violence. This is what sin does, especially sin on such a large scale.
And by their fruits you will know them (Mt 7:20).

Some leaders (meaning d/Democrats) took action, in order to stave off more treason, violence, and danger.

grievance culture

A grievance is a complaint, often at a perceived unfairness or injustice. Sometimes they are justified. But crying for justice is not always appreciated. Some grievances are false. Some people are not interested at hearing any grievance (outside of their own). In slightly coarser language, complaining is called bitching, which is so applied to downgrade the process of any complaint. Truly there are people have suffered great harm and distress, and truly there are people who claim such for every instance of their displeasure over even the slightest matter.

In a non-genteel occupation i labored in, which is rife with gossip, one fellow complained so often he was nicknamed Bitch; later his son joined the same labor force, and was christened Son of Bitch. Years later, when they were no longer working, and not seen, they were still recalled; and their tale was spread to new workers.

This year was a very angry year in this country. The chief subject was race. Lyndon Johnson did say,If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.”  He was right then, and is still right. Bernie Sanders, who is class conscious, ran in 2016 and this year always gives economic arguments. It is true, that the wealthy, obscenely wealthy bank on race to camouflage their mercenary greed. To divide and thus conquer the population over racial antagonisms has been a sure winner. Trump was the champion of white grievance.

The chief beneficiary of race hatred to gain political office in this country has been Donald Trump. He began his public 2016 campaign with hatred of Mexican migrants, and he never relented. He began the private campaign in response to Barack Obama, a man of color. Now and always, Donald is a wretched soul. Opposition to Obama was immediate. Soon tea-baggers formed, financed by rich Republican interests, and Fox News [sic]. This ersatz 'populism' appealed sotte voce to racists, and also screaming racial hatred directed at Obama, his wife, and others. With Trump the white racists found their standard bearer, and the grifter Trump would sell standards for them to bear.

Trump was born a rich man, and failed at everything, but being the son of a rich man failure became a success. If we were to put Donnie on the couch, he might remember his first grievance was he was not breast fed enough, if at all. That baby crankiness enveloped him to a mental sickness [krankheit]. Look at him in film, and fotos. He looks the opposite of happy. His smiles are always posed frozenly, and never come to him naturally. His humour exists only in mean-spiritness. He has a near permanent, fish pout.

Trump projects continuously. In April, in Concord N. Hamp., he again told the Scalise (the congressman, not the mobster) story. Scalise was shot, and his wife cried; Trump says a lot of wives wouldn't (his three). Also, for years he has told the snake story, Foolish woman, you knew i was a snake when you took me in.. Trump always talks about himself.

White people, and black people have grievances. Some of both think there are only two people: me, and the other person of the other race. Because you have a grievance, it was not caused by society favoring the other guy against you in every situation. America has angry white people, and angry black people who resent each other. Sometimes it is a turf war (and it should be acknowledged, when a formerly white neighbourhood becomes a black neighbourhood, the white people left behind are often targets of hooliganism, and crime; and this is never described as racially motivated). Other times it are the economic interests manipulating, and playing with people's lives. First look at the numbers. There are many more whites than blacks. Every white man is not set back by advantage to a black man, there are not that many black men. Also, because there are so many white men in spots, not all of them are there because a black man was cheated; there are not that many black men to be cheated.

“...Who renderest the iniquity of the fathers to the children, and to the grandchildren unto the third and fourth generation.” — Exodus 34. vii.
“...who visitest the sins of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.” — Numbers 14. xviii.
“The past is never dead. It's not even past.” ― William Faulkner, Requiem for a Nun

Systemic racism exists. Some white people object to the term, and the idea. The effects of history last far longer than those who propelled them. A hundred years is not much time in history, history lingers. The chief event in American history is the war fought between 1861 and 1865. All those alive then, are dead now. Many in America to-day are not descendants from those in America at the time. That war was fought over black chattel slavery, and yet some people lie about it. The losing side, as Faulkner pointed out, was defeated but unvanquished. The social antagonisms, and classism did not stop. It still exists. Why are people publicly lamenting the confederate war banner? and confederate statues? The Germans do not fly nazi flags, and there are no nazi statues in Germany. Now, some white people resent this, and some black people are permanently angry. There is no collective guilt for future generations. There are lingering effects.

Black Lives Matter is a response to police brutality. Police in America are often given extreme latitude, often to the point of carte blanche. The black population, especially, feels like a captive population. Police have freely killed black people often enough, and without penalty. It is perfectly expected for black people to be upset. The examples of their lives being treated as something without any value is too frequent. One of the cliches, that are so often recited, is that nothing is worth more than a human life. It is not true in America. To this openly, obvious reality the police and their supporters go ballistic. Of course the use of ballistics is part of the problem. Police accept no reproach, and fiercely bristle with anger over criticism. Blue Lives Matter is a nonsense slogan. Black people did not say other lives do not matter, but many people do not value black life. Further, police have created a fiction, in which they are warriors preserving society. And when anger spills into rioting, many people damn the rioters while ignoring the reasons for anger. Police aggression is then positively viewed. Also the slogan “defund the police” was self defeating. Police are a political power in cities, and politicians (especially Republicans) love to use their support, and this year they were part of their campaign language. In Cleveland the police union president, Steve Loomis, in 2016, and later when he was out of office was himself an organiser of Trump events. Loomis is one of 2020's Trump electors.

White privilege is a stupid, and self defeating term. It is not a privilege to be white. Being white is not an extra gift: it even suggests that not being white is existentially inferior, and that truly black lives do not matter. It is often an advantage in America to be white. All white people are not privileged, many suffer the problems other people have. There is a privileged and favored class, and that status is primarily based on wealth. Using the term, white privilege, is meant to be provocative, and is counter productive. When making a plea for justice, to attack people with accusation, and condemnation when they are not those who are your enemies is asinine.

And there are people who use the complaint of political correctness, as a term for censorship. They are upset of being socially not accepted for saying often rude things. There is also times when the powers in charge do not want to hear views, and they have the situational power to keep people silent. Some of those views silenced are considered politically liberal. Other terms in this realm are call out culture, and cancel culture. And then it also goes for noting lewd behaviour, e.g. slut shaming. Not all grievances carry the same weight, or importance.

Mayfield Hill

Chiesa S. Giovanni
In the decades around 1900, Protestants evangelised [the mostly Catholic] immigrants. From 1907 to 1962 this building held a Presbyterian congregation. It was a mission church to 1955, and as an independent church until c.1962 when it closed, and the property sold in 1963. It is now an art gallery. The stone reads in Italian, "Church of St. John". In local writing it is called, St. John Beckwith (Memorial Church). There is no "St. John Beckwith", money came from from the bequest of T. Sterling Beckwith. Beckwith was the second owner of the first mansion on Millionaire's Row, which now houses the Children's Museum.
just before Ford Drive ends to become Mayfield Road
Corner of Mayfield and Euclid, in front of MOCA
There is an exhibit of losing presidential campaign signs. Next time, trump pence can join the losers.
As Mayfield rises, there are two extended murals on a retaining wall. The older one is of the area around the nearby university, and of the sights of downtown. It is marked, "Art Education CWRU 1996 Tim Shuckerow". There is a stegasauraus (which has been repainted a new color) outside the Natural History Museum, and skeleton models inside of other dinos.

The other is a story of Italian Americans, and of the neighborhood of Pico Italia; and painted in it are two major buildings on near Euclid Avenue, one is a hospital cancer building opened in 2011. Mural ends at the entrance of Brush Park, and is kitty corner to Holy Rosary campus.
