Clayton Bailey's World of Wonders

As you see, Bailey put together objects to form anthropomorphic robots out of appliances, tools, and other items. Most of these robots are humourous, and fun. This one has a nameplate, "Commander". These are akin to the science fiction movie and television robots.

The one on the right is a double decker totem pole made from institutional kitchen equipment. It may have have served coffee.

Besides the robots, and faux science machines, he made ceramics that continued the scientific and side show themes. Bailey became an art professor in Northern California. There were several artists in the area that offered something counter to abstract expressionism. Some was folk art, some was crafting found art. Funk art, and Nut art were names applied. This was figurative art, not the formlessness of the New York modernists. They shaped, and drew instead of splattering.

Clayton Bailey (*1939, 2020†) had a sense of humour. There are signs referencing the impresario, museum trickster P.T. Barnum. Sasquatch sightings were common in Northern California, Bailey ran with it. Barnum entertained the gullible. Part of the modern art con job is the fanciful description written on the presentation card.
