Now this Jacque is in Belleville, and is visible from the interstate. Actually, we saw this one first. I had read about Marblehead Jacque for years, and i saw this one and thought that there might be more. manufactures like the muffler men giants. I saw, while in car, the distinct lean, and thought i saw the head move, and a rope. Perhaps it was inflated, and the rope was a tie down. It was by the locomotive diner, perhaps another attraction.
Off to the search engines, there were two Jacques made. They were for sandwich joints in Marion, and Mansfield Ohio. Here is where various writers have confused the two. The Jacque's restaurants operated in the 1960s to 1972. The two statues may not have been identical. The French waiters may have had white trousers, and blue jackets. They may have held one or two trays, with roast beef, or ham and/or corned beef sandwiches. They may be 28', 30', 32', 35' or other feet tall. One may have been called Pierre. A restaurant may have become a pizza joint, a restaurant may have become an Arthur Treacher's, one may have burned down. The city may have ordered the statue taken down. The one in Marion, or the one in Mansfield may be the one in Marblehead. I guess the preponderance of reportage has the move from Marion to Marblehead.
Mike Byrne owns the choo-choo diner, and Mike Cahill came there in 2022. Cahill's father, Terry, had bought the other 50 years before, and it lay disassembled. The two Mikes talked. Since the head had been separated, they agreed to attach it with a spring to make a bobblehead. Byrne is a Buckeye fan, and the restaurant has Ohio State (formerly A&M) decor. Jacque now has a scarlet coat (near the tail of his jacket some of the blue is visible). Belleville Jacque was up in July 2022.
