St. Peter Canton

St. Peter's began as a German parish in 1845 Canton. The present church was built in 1875.  Under the left corner of the sign supra is a statue of Peter. From a few feet away one can see this Catholic church, and the older St. John the Baptist, which construction began in 1870. St. John's began in 1823 and was the first Catholic church in the county. Now they share a pastor.
Next to the church is a statue of Peter.
multi-paned doors between the narthex and nave

This tall window's view is truncated by the organ loft above, and a confessional below. Usually the art in church representing the patron is flattering. Not in this case. Here is Peter's Denial of Jesus:

"And apprehending him, they led him to the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall and were sitting about it, Peter was in the midst of them. Whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light and had earnestly beheld him, she said: This man also was with him. But he denied him, saying: Woman, I know him not. ... And Peter said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, as he was yet speaking, the cock crew. And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny thrice."  — Luke xxii. 54-57, 60-61.
