more Canton football

outside the museum, next to the interstate is this electrical stanchion
rare clever advertising
Canton pushed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The NFL was founded in Canton. The museum opened in 1963, and has been expanding. There is a football stadium next to it. Yearly the town gears up for an annual induction and game, and makes the national news. It is exposure that is wanted, by a rustbelt city that is shrinking. Because of the coronavirus there was no induction this year, a first; and the third time without a game.

Dirk Rozich. Super Bowl III. Canton Art Museum. 2017.

Joe Namath led the upstart AFL Jets to victory over a great Colts team in January 1969. The first two championship games were easy wins for the NFL Packers. Broadway Joe was a very interesting character, who was courted by the press. In the lead up to the game, Joe was pestered about the team's chances. One day he responded to an idiot with "We're going to win the game. I guarantee it.".  This is on a wall of the Canton Art Museum.

Gail Folwell. The NFL Draft. 2015. [also]

Brad Spencer. Lambeau Field. outside Canton Ballet. 2020.

On September 18th, two sculptures were introduced to the public, numbers 8 and 9 of eleven. This commemorates the "Ice Bowl" on the 'frozen tundra' of Lambeau Field Wisconsin. The NFL championship game on 31 December 1967. The game time temperature started at −15 °F, and windy. Sixteen seconds were left on the clock, Green Bay had the ball less than a yard from the goal line. Dallas was in the lead, 17-14. Dallas had sacked Bart Starr eight times. It was third down, and many expected a pass. Starr called for a wedge, and lunged forward to score.

I especially like this angle, in which the foto shows some of the contour of the shaped bricks.
