Sorrowful Mother Shrine

In 1850, the Sanguinists (C.PP.S., Precious Blood) came near Bellevue Ohio and built a chapel. Franz Sales Brunner was Swiss, and the other missionaries were also from German speaking lands. They came to minister German Catholics, and this was their hub in north west Ohio. Over the years, it became a pilgrim centre. On the walls of the sanctuary, there are crutches witnessing to cures. New chapel was built in 1870, and burned in 1912. This chapel replaced it, and there are two stones marked 1870. This is the oldest Marian shrine in the Middle West, and east of the Mississippi.
This dedication stone is obscured by a porch addition. The inscription reads, "Church in the honor of Blessed Mary Mother of Sorrows. Built in the Year of Our Lord 1870".
Dalle de verre (glass slabs) or faceted glass (hammer chipped dalles)
This sort of glass is often used in abstract. The open sided, pavilion chapel has one large window. In the centre is the Sorrowful Mother in a pieta posture.
In the woods there is a prayer/meditation labyrinth.
Throughout the near by woods are stations, statues, buildings and other spots conducive to prayer, thought, and meditation.
Sunday, 13th October 2019. A procession led out toward a new statue, which was blessed. Usually only the priest blesses, Fr. Kramer invited everyone to spritz the Pio Padre statue donated by the TreviƱo family.
