It is traditional to have a blessing on St. Francis of Assisi Day (October 4th), but it is often more convenient to schedule on a weekend day. This morning there was blessings for the animals at Mary Queen of Peace at Our Lady of Good Counsel Old
Brooklyn. Fr. Doug Brown had his dog Sonny, and people brought their
dogs, cats, and a punnet of earthworms. The blessings were those of St.
Anthony Abbot for domestic animals, and those afflicted with disease.
