Japanese Tragedies

The news from Japan is horror. Earthquakes, fires, tidal wave, nuclear catastrophe and now a volcano. Thousands are dead, and many not ever to be found. Japan is suffering.

Humor is all black tragedy now. One of the few cultural icons the West has of Japan is the movie monster, Godzilla [Gozira or Gojira, if transliteration was more accurate]. This is the scene where he was conceived. A giant monster that emerges from the sea after a nuclear disaster to destroy major cities [generally Tokyo, this time Sendai].

Since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this is the archetypal fear of the nation. A friend, at the prayer vigil to-day, waxed apocalyptic. God, please have Mercy on Japan.
