Spring in Birdtown

Stopped in a saloon yesterday, the last time [click] i was inside the building it was a church.   Look at the street signs, it explains the new name.  This portion of Lakewood had many churches of several nationalities.  This short residential street had three, and the dome and steeple of two others are easy to see.

They did an extensive remodel.   The religious items, and art were not part of the sale.  Whiskey and stained glass.  The pub looks a little Irish like.  There was a Latin-rite church in the Pittsburgh lands that became a brewery, and there may be others.

There is a self portrait of the painter, i was told. The brew kettles are in the old sanctuary.

The other flags were all the current national flag. If sailors had binoculars, they would be to distant to be seen, unless they were the real long, and heavy ones.

People wanted pictures, and some had good equipment.

For many it was another good reason to go to the park. I hazard to guess how many were there. The ship was scheduled for 10.30.  Before 10 the parking lots were filled, and people had already began to park at nearby city streets.  Some continued into the lots, not minding the number of cars leaving. So for some time, throngs of people marched across the park to glimpse the lake, and wait. When the ship did come it was near the horizon.

Lakewood Solstice Steps. February 3rd.

Air not so clear. The last half of January was frigid. One morning it hit -10°F.   Several days consecutively the high was below 20°F. There was goodly snow before, and during.  Winter came and has not relented in harshness.  Going outside to snap pictures is not too inviting, and not much color.

2025 Miscellany #20

 

New mural in Ohio City replaces Bernie getting arrested.  Shadows obscure, here is a portion of ancient Greece with a modern addition. Greek coffee is like Turkish coffee, American coffee is different:  it is put in a throwaway container, and is brandished like a torch (either the one with a battery, or real fire).

Well, Parma has replaced the second stolen and vandalised flamingo. A second bunch of probably drunken deplorable yahoos hit this location. Besides being that, these idiots did not have sense to bring a wrench. Using a wrench would have removed the three nuts, instead they snapped the statue off. Well now the flamingos have a bulky gps unit.

There is a graveyard in Cuyahoga Falls that has a large waterfowl pond. There are several farmyard geese, and a pair of  Black Swans that reside there, and sometimes ducky guests. This is the male swan, he is active, and will nip at people.

Three mile water intake crib viewed on a very clear morning from Lakewood; it was  a random shot, i should have taken some care. Pollution used to be so bad, it was seldom seen.

Logo on a sweatshirt for the annual event in Lakewood O, masquerading on a Saturday midday in October beats an evening at the end of the month.  True, this is mostly for dogs and adults; but it is fun, and some people can be very creative.

For the first time Parade the Circle had to be rescheduled [rain]. The format changed to the lawn and lagoon of the original entrance to the art museum. One of the musicians practicing in the sun.

2025 Miscellany #3—w/ Lakewood

These garden ornaments have different names including 'gazing spheres', this one has the striation pattern of  a celestial sphere like Jupiter, but it was once Dottie's bowling ball. Gazing balls were mediæval, hollow blown glass. The 1960s version they were sometimes paired up with pink flamingos, and as shiny as chrome. A little exaggeration, chrome was the favorite car color in the 1950s. Don't type chrome in a computer search engine, you get garbage. You want chromium. Some study from the 1920s asserted the United States was self-sufficient in all but three items: coffee, rubber, and chromium.

A Tuesday evening in early April, Wade Lagoon, University Circle, Cleveland Art Museum. I was not the only shutterbug to promenade a hound. There was sun.
