images created, and sometimes forgotten

Shaolin Gung Fu East 71st Cleveland
Tre-Tre's Place 1923.
This would make this building one hundred years old. It is kitty corner from Collinwood High. Across the street, there is an empty lot, which at one time was a locksmith's shop. This may become an empty lot too. This building was a home, with a teevee repair shop in the front room. Can not guess, how long it has been vacant. The wild locust trees found spots to anchor.

What paint did they use on this sign? This foto, i snapped june 1st this year. This sign became visible again in January 2010, when a few years vacant 12 lane bowling alley was torn down. Well, that sign was not seen for 60-70 years; before area codes, when Cleveland had 6 digit phone numbers, which began in the 1920s.

Parma residents include many immigrants, children, and grandchildren of immigrants. One indication is the many non-Protestant churches, and Protestant ethnic churches that would be unfamiliar in most of America. So to spotlight this, the northern stretches of two main roads have been designated as Polish Village (Ridge), and Ukrainian Village (State).
flamingos putting the woo in the woo
When the  boom hit, Parma expanded greatly in population post wwii, and America was awash in suburban kitsch. Featherstone's pink flamingos were very popular. [click] And in the local popular imagination, Parma was the epicenter for flamingo sightings. And then people became embarrassed, and it took some years before other people came to embrace the birds again. (as an aside, some local Poles had a chip on their shoulder feeling ridiculed; especially with Ernie Anderson, and Chuck Schodowsi both of WJW-TV8.)
